Drak Descent to kick-start Tipping Point/Brink’s season

The Pietermaritzburg-based Tipping Point/Brink Cycling Academy will begin their exciting 2023 season with a trip to the Euro Steel Drak Descent from 28-29 January.

The Drak Descent has quickly become a must-do race for mountain biking enthusiasts as the two days of riding through the Southern Drakensberg offers up some of the best trails around.

The Tipping Point/Brink team of David Low and Keegan Tullis will take on the full 92km Euro Steel Drak Descent with 42km on the first day and 50km on the second.

Heading into what promises to be another exciting season, David Low sees the Drak Descent as the ideal season opener.

“I am planning to use the Drak Descent as race prep for the Tankwa Trek and building up to SA Marathon Champs,” Low said.

“At the moment I am just in the process of building a solid foundation of base training going into the Drak Descent which will be the first race of the season for us.”

The Underberg area is a favourite for Low who is looking forward to getting back onto the trails.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a few mountain biking events in the Southern Drakensberg over the past few years,” he commented.

Low and Tullis will be in for an exciting contest over the two days in January and with other races together in 2023 the Drak Descent will give them a good early season hit out; however Low wasn’t given the option to miss out.

“It was Keegans decision to enter. I had no choice! Jokes aside, I am looking forward to kicking off the 2023 season with the Drak Descent.

“We will also be racing the Tankwa Trek together, so Drak Descent will be a good opportunity for us to test our fitness and communication skills. We are very comfortable riding with each other, and we train together in and around the Midlands on most days.”
